First Native of Paranaque Ordained Bishop




His Eminence Most Reverend Bishop Francisco de Leon D.D. first native bishop of Paranaque will hold a special thanksgiving mass at the St. Andrew’s Cathedral on September 10, 2007 at 11 a.m. A unique welcome celebration from folks in La Huerta awaits him upon his arrival here on Monday.

As one of the former rectors of San Carlos Seminary in Makati, he was ordained bishop last September 1, 2007 at the Manila Cathedral with Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales as ordaining prelate and preacher.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed Msgr. De Leon auxiliary bishop for the Diocese of Antipolo and the titular Diocese of Boseta on June 27, 2007. As new auxiliary bishop, de Leon will assist Bishop Reyes.

Born June 11, 1947 in Parañaque City, he studied elementary at Saint Andrew’s School in Parañaque and finished high school at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Minor Seminary in Makati and Philosophy and Theology at San Carlos Seminary also in this city. He also took a course in Spiritual Renewal at Our Lady of New Clairvaux in Vina, California, and a Pastoral Course at the Vatican II Institute for Clergy Formation in Menlo Park, California.

At the time of his appointment he was rector of the Archdiocesan Shrine of the Divine Mercy in Mandaluyong City and rector of the San Carlos Seminary of the Archdiocese of Manila and the St. Andrew Parish in Makati City.
