HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAMA MARY
Every 8th of September, the Filipino Nation celebrates the birthday of the country's titular patron...ang Mahal na Birheng Maria.

Mother Mary is known here under the title of "Our Lady of Buensuceso".
chichirica
Sometime last week there was a feature here about a flower in my frontyard.
Well, last Saturday September 8 was the birthday of Mother Mary and together with a friend, the author travelled to Paete, Laguna to watch a parade of statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary and of course to pay Her homage on Her anniversary. It was a unique show held where life-size statues of different titles of Mary were featured inside the church.
On their way back, the two passed by Los Banos and chanced upon flower plants displayed and sold along the hi-way. This is what they found out regarding the particular flower from that article.
the name is chichirica.

3 killed, 13 hurt in Paranaque wall collapse
Three construction workers died while 13 others were injured when a 20-foot firewall of a supply warehouse being constructed in Paranaque City fell on them Thursday.
As of 4 p.m. Thursday, rescuers were still searching for others who may still be underneath concrete slabs and debris of the collapsed firewall of Wilcon Builders Supply in Barangay San Dionisio, Sucat, Parañaque City.
Parañaque City Police Director Ronald Estilles identified the fatalities as 32-year-old welder Lazaro Ramos, Balbino Ocampo, and Justino Abesamis.
Those injured were identified as Robert Decena, Marlon de Leon, Pablo dela Cruz, Joel Baluyot, Gil Domingo, Ben Banong, Silverio Quiriaga, Lino Domingo, Ricky Garcia, Sonny Fran, Eliseo Maducduc, Jun Feliciano and Boy Evangelista.
Estilles said the injured laborers were sent to Olivarez Hospital and Parañaque Community Medical Center for treatment.
Witnesses said more than a dozen workers were working beside the wall when it fell on them at around 11:30 a.m. "They were mixing cement when the wall fell on them," said Estilles, who led rescue efforts along with personnel from the local Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the City Government.
Estilles said the workers were installing a huge steel beam that will serve as the frame for the warehouse's roof when the wall crumbled. He also said the wall failed to support the weight of the steel truss.
He said they would continue the rescue operations until the debris has been cleared and they could account for all the workers.
Distraught relatives of the victims rushed to the construction site upon hearing about the incident in the news.
Parañaque City Mayor Florencio Bernabe has ordered an investigation into the accident, particularly the liability of city building official Noel Cerpina, who signed the building permit for Wilson Builders Supply.

(UPDATE 4) MANILA, Philippines -- Actor and ex-Parañaque City mayor Joey Marquez has posted P150,000 bail after he and three others were convicted of graft by the Sandiganbayan anti-graft court, according to a report on local television.
At the same time, the report said Marquez has filed a motion for reconsideration.
Marquez’s bail is on top of the P90,000 bond he posted before the start of the trial by the anti-graft court.
Under the law, the court has the discretion to allow a convicted individual to post an additional bond for his provisional liberty while his case is on appeal.
Marquez, Silvestre de Leon, city treasurer; Flocerida Babida, budget officer; and Ofelia Cuanan, general services chief have been sentenced from 6-10 years imprisonment by the Sandiganbayan fourth division which had ruled on the case.
The anti-graft court fourth division headed by Associate Justice Gregory Ong said Marquez and the other officials had violated Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft Law particularly Section 3 (g) for "entering, on behalf of the government, into any contract or transaction manifestly and grossly disadvantageous to the same, whether or not the public officer profited or will profit thereby."
The Commission on Audit filed the case after it discovered that the broomsticks that were purchased from January 1996 to September 1997 by the city government under Marquez’s term were overpriced by P462,708 and did not go through the regular bidding procedures.
Marquez served as mayor from July 1995 to 1998 when Parañaque was then a municipality and from 1998 to June 30, 2004 when it became a city.
